There is an old Celtic Custom that on the 2nd February they celebrate the first day of spring, Imbolc or Oimelc, are the names given to this day meaning the flow of milk from sheep that heralds the return of the life-giving forces of spring. Its always great to hear of such old symbolic festivals or feasts that allow us to forget the cold grey days of January and February and to look forward to the coming spring. I was lucky enough to be invited to a friends for dinner on the evening of the 2nd and we celebrated with wonderful food, warming wine and candle light. It definitely felt like a new start, and to be looking forward to what the year 2012 is going to bring! So far it has been extremely busy and I have been working with some amazing people on various projects.

I have been working the Anomalous Visuals over the last 6 months of various projects and I hope this will continue as they are probably one of the most innovative collectives around, they are just supreme with their vision, and its been inspiration working with them! Allowing me to push my own creativity in many different ways which can only be a bonus in my estimation.

I have been also working on another project which I am unsure if we actually have a name at the moment, brought together by George Demure whom I have collaborated with over the last few years. A collection of talented individuals creating a very exciting sound. Hopefully we will be out playing shows in the coming months and you won’t be disappointed!

With no Neotropic releases planned for this year, I will however be working on a number of interesting projects. I am presently working with the Coterie Collective as we are about to release a compilation CD of sound works from various sound artists. We have yet to have a release date but will be coming soon.

I also wanted to mention a new project by filmmaker and artist Meloni Poole which will launch virally in the next couple of months and I am excited to be creating the sound worlds for her animation/book Deergirl. Its is an amazing story and one I am excited to see come to life.

Film Installation

Just a quick note to let you know, some of my music has been used for a beautiful film Korlekie put together by the amazing Anomalous Visuals. 2012! here I come…..

Wow its almost the end of January, and what a month it has been…been totally immersed in new work which has been such a great start to this year. Sometimes you need to speculate to accumulate and this time is has paid dividends, so more of that please 2012…..Feeling full of optimism and looking forward to lots of new adventures this year. Have a few exhibitions coming up with lots of new sound design being created for a number of great new shows, all will be revealed in the coming months. Watch this space! I am desperate to buy a new camera and the one I have my eye is a Canon 600D which seems like one of the better deals around at the moment. This is a must for my trip to the Amazon later in the year, wanting to document as much as I can while on this amazing journey. Simply snapping with a cybershot has lost its charm and now its time to step it up.

Congratulations to the lovely guys at Architects and Heroes who have just reached their one year anniversary. Happy Birthday! Two new signings Kidd Anthem and Bizzart! Looking forward to releases from them. Please continue to support the label, these guys are truly passionate about what they do!

Ok I need to get back to work in the studio. Currently just finished sound on an new installation which will get its showcase next week. Also working with the lovely Hipnotica (Portugal) singing on a couple of tracks on their new album.

Just finished up a new EP with George Demure and the Great Guns guys, a great new project, lots of fun and a total departure from what you would normally expect from Miss dark corner……I feel this is definitely one to watch!

So lots of things bubbling and will keep you all posted on how things pan out in the coming months.

Farewell 2011!

To summarise 2011 has been a roller-coaster of a year both personally and the World over! Everything from illness to earthquakes and revolutions….I am ever hopeful 2012 will be a year of adventures for us all…..I am looking forward to starting the year with a clean bill of health, the past few months have been good for me and long it may continue. With the release of Equestrienne remixes and my ongoing installation work, my new collaborations long they may continue into the next year.

My trip to the Amazon at the end of 2012 is something I am so looking forward to and what an adventure that will be, a trip of a lifetime and will bring forth new works to be showcased in 2013.

I cannot thank you all enough for your support through the good and the not so good times. It was certainly heart warming.I raise my glass to the new year and wish you all a wonderful start to 2012!

A Winters Tale

As we head on through December, with Christmas just around the corner am preparing to wind down for a break. A well earned one at that! Its been an eventful few weeks. Last week saw the opening of The Secret Subterranean Show which was put together and curated by the amazing Anomalous Visuals. The preview evening was sublime and one that I was not really prepared for, in a good way. I had popped down the previous day to test the sound for one of the installations, which sounded pretty special in the space. The guys worked so hard to pull it all together and not without drama, the feedback I have had, had been fantastic and I feel very blessed to be collaborating with such a great bunch of talented folk! Here’s to more collaborations in the future….

On another note there is a rather nice remix out that I did for Theodor Bastard from Russia, which is out this week, with a whole heap of great remixes. Hopefully we will continue working together in 2012.

I want to thanks everyone for all their support over this year,….it has been an amazing journey after such a terrible start to 2011. I am looking forward to beginning 2012 feeling much healthier and with renewed vigour!

I have a few new things in the pipeline, a new compilation album coming very shortly with a number of very talented female sound artists which should get its release early next year.

I will be showcasing a new work along with the CODA installation, which was premiered recently as part of London Fashion Week. As the days grow shorter and the nights draw in.

It has been a beautiful Sunday, there is a smell all too familiar when Autumn arrives. A reminder of my youth, running and kicking up the dry leaves as they crunch beneath my feet. There is a faint hint of wood burning aromas which I love. The vivid colours of the leaves on the trees, the deep reds and auburn before they turn brown and fall to the ground. I do love this time of year, and often do my best work through the darker days of winter. The past month has been quiet but am working on lots of new ideas and projects. Singing in a new band called Great Guns, which I love! We are kind of like Talking Heads meets the B52′s with a bit of Prince and Roxy Music thrown in. All the music is created with original analogue keyboards, synths and drum machines and has a beautiful warmth that a lot of digital music cannot in my estimation recreate. The members of the band are George Demure, Ben Great Guns, Jeanga and Laura Cole. We are in the process of writing and recording at the moment and have some great work already done. I will keep you posted on our movements as we hope to be playing some live shows soon. I have also contributed to a new album released by SoundFjord in response to the recent riots in Tottenham over the summer, so please support this album and at £3.99 is a bargain. I have a few other projects I am working on and hopefully I will get to talk more about those in the coming months. I am on the look out for anyone who would perhaps be able to help me with some research on interactivity and triggering of sounds for an upcoming exhibition next year, so if anyone wishes to talk or mail me please do it would be most appreciated.

There is also a new compilation being released CYCLE #10 Digital LP Compilation – November 7th and will feature my track The Horse Trainer and a lot of other great artists. Terra Preta (Black Earth) Project

I just wanted to let you know that I have secured some funding for my new project Terra Preta which will help towards my trip to the Amazon next October! So to all those who contributed, I just wanted to let you know that this will also be used as part of the project! Big love to all of you who has helped me get this amazing project off the ground, you have know idea how excited I am about this…I will be starting early in 2012 researching on interactivity, so if any of you have any good leads on this kind of thing that could help me develop or at least put my ideas to someone who perhaps can make this happen! So roll on 2012……..

We are already heading for the end of September…..time seems to of flown by of late!
Its been a busy few weeks. I have just finished up a Remix for Theodor Bastard an amazing band from Russia. I will keep you posted on the release of this.
CODA is a project I have been working on with Anomalous Visuals who are a very talented and artists mainly working in moving visuals. Please check out their work at http://anomalousvisuals.co.uk/index.php?/live/av/.Over the last month we have been collaborating on an installation piece, with sound provided by myself. The final work was in my estimation outstanding. I am hoping this is the beginning of a fruitful new collaborative partnership.

I am also screening 3 films this evening as part of the second life benefit show to raise money for the recent fire at the Sony Building/PIAS where many of our fantastic independent labels stored their stock. Performing alongside some other great artists will be DJ Vadim. If you check my Facebook page you will find details of the show. I have a few things bubbling in the creative furnace here at Neotropic HQ and will keep you posted over the coming months.
Please keep supporting the new album, have had some lovely reviews already. If any of you wish to receive a download version to help promote, do a review, radio, please get in contact with me.

I am also starting research on an upcoming project and am looking for some good tips on creating interactive objects, preferably in triggering sound.
