I just wanted to put let you know of a few things that are happening. I am part of a new collective made up of myself, Leslie Deere and Nadine Richardson.We are all involved in sound in various guises and decided it would be a good idea to put together a collective to enable us to collaborate on various projects together. Three minds are better than one! P

We are about to launch our first CD, a compilation of pieces inspired from the field. This came about after Leslie, myself and Kaffe Matthews were commissioned by Kew Gardens in 2011 to produce sound pieces in various locations as part of their summer festival. Off the back of this amazing experience it seemed such a shame that we had no real outlet to showcase the amazing work that we composed, unless you had visited them. It seemed like a good idea to get together our favourite artists to produce works that has been inspired by the majesty of Kew Gardens.

On the 25th May we will be showcasing the work from all the artists involved as part of Soundfjords Sound//Space | Pop-Up Record Store & Community Hub. Please come along if you are free. It starts at 7.30pm and its not a late one, for all those of you who may have to work the following day even though its a Friday!We as the Coterie Collective will be selling this limited edition CD at this performance. Failing that I will be setting up band camp page so you can purchase a digital copy along with a physical CD if you would rather have that. We are in Drought!

Its already the month of May! As time flys by and we head on into Summer! I am hoping for some summer weather at some point. Its been a busy few weeks, working on a new sound piece for Erevos Aether, as part of a beautiful film created by Anomalousvisuals. In fact I have just finished it, with thanks to Jason for his beautiful strings reminiscent of Arvo Part.

As part of the Coterie Collective we are just adding the finishing touches for our new CD, Neck of the Woods. Its a compilation of different sound artists, including 10Sui, Leslie Deere, Nadine Richardson and Kaffe Matthews. We are holding a launch night on the 25th May along with a slot on NTS Radio on the 16th May at 10pm. I had the opportunity to see two amazing performances at the weekend as part of a day dedicated to the work of Arvo Part. It was completely sublime and of course very inspiring. I have to thank Scott Dan for the extra tickets.

The rain has been relentless and it is not actually raining today which is a blessing, but according to the news we are still in serious drought! Kind of odd really when in some parts of the south east we have had serious flooding! Makes you wonder why certain large companies sold off reservoirs or developing wetlands!

Well just a short interlude and will keep you posted on any further news in the coming weeks.

Drip Drip Little April Showers

Its already April and the year is well and truly under way. Our first bank holiday of the year passed. Spent a lovely weekend visiting friends in Brighton, one of my favourite seaside retreats and one place I would love to decamp to sooner rather than later if I can find the right place to reside in. At present just a pipe dream but am working toward in the hope I can be beside the sea very soon!

My next radio show will be aired this Friday 13th April on Reel Rebels Radio so please tune in between 10pm and 12am, if you are not able to tune in, I will be uploading the show to my mixcloud account http://www.mixcloud.com/neotropic/.

There is a new CD being released in May through The Coterie Collective and will be available through Sounfjords SOUND//SPACE, as a centre for sonic exploration, is a space to buy independent and hand-made music and sound art; meet like-minded individuals, artists/musicians, label owners, and to discuss interests; listen to sound samples from records, CDs and similar media; and experience unusual live music and sound art. The CD will feature sonic delights from Leslie Deere, Nadine Richardson, 10sui and Kaffe Matthews. The tracks are all in response to Kew Gardens in West London. I will keep you posted on the date of the release and where you can purchase a copy of this DIY project.

The March Hare

Its already March and means we are heading towards Spring. It seems to of got cold again though.

News – I have a brand new radio show starting this Friday 9th March and will be monthly on Reel Rebels Radio a community run radio station. They have a very eclectic roster and well worth checking out, all the shows are archived and you can go and listen at your leisure. So please support them and also listen to my first show from 10pm – 12am. If you have any tracks that you think will fit then please do send them over to me. I am also very happy to publicise any interesting art happenings or happenings that are left field.

Working on some new material and just finished up a new EP with Great Guns and hopefully this will be available before the years end.

February belongs to Brigid

There is an old Celtic Custom that on the 2nd February they celebrate the first day of spring, Imbolc or Oimelc, are the names given to this day meaning the flow of milk from sheep that heralds the return of the life-giving forces of spring. Its always great to hear of such old symbolic festivals or feasts that allow us to forget the cold grey days of January and February and to look forward to the coming spring. I was lucky enough to be invited to a friends for dinner on the evening of the 2nd and we celebrated with wonderful food, warming wine and candle light. It definitely felt like a new start, and to be looking forward to what the year 2012 is going to bring! So far it has been extremely busy and I have been working with some amazing people on various projects.

I have been working the Anomalous Visuals over the last 6 months of various projects and I hope this will continue as they are probably one of the most innovative collectives around, they are just supreme with their vision, and its been inspiration working with them! Allowing me to push my own creativity in many different ways which can only be a bonus in my estimation.

I have been also working on another project which I am unsure if we actually have a name at the moment, brought together by George Demure whom I have collaborated with over the last few years. A collection of talented individuals creating a very exciting sound. Hopefully we will be out playing shows in the coming months and you won’t be disappointed!

With no Neotropic releases planned for this year, I will however be working on a number of interesting projects. I am presently working with the Coterie Collective as we are about to release a compilation CD of sound works from various sound artists. We have yet to have a release date but will be coming soon.

I also wanted to mention a new project by filmmaker and artist Meloni Poole which will launch virally in the next couple of months and I am excited to be creating the sound worlds for her animation/book Deergirl. Its is an amazing story and one I am excited to see come to life.

Just a quick note to let you know, some of my music has been used for a beautiful film Korlekie put together by the amazing Anomalous Visuals. 2012! here I come…..

Wow its almost the end of January, and what a month it has been…been totally immersed in new work which has been such a great start to this year. Sometimes you need to speculate to accumulate and this time is has paid dividends, so more of that please 2012…..Feeling full of optimism and looking forward to lots of new adventures this year. Have a few exhibitions coming up with lots of new sound design being created for a number of great new shows, all will be revealed in the coming months. Watch this space! I am desperate to buy a new camera and the one I have my eye is a Canon 600D which seems like one of the better deals around at the moment. This is a must for my trip to the Amazon later in the year, wanting to document as much as I can while on this amazing journey. Simply snapping with a cybershot has lost its charm and now its time to step it up.

Congratulations to the lovely guys at Architects and Heroes who have just reached their one year anniversary. Happy Birthday! Two new signings Kidd Anthem and Bizzart! Looking forward to releases from them. Please continue to support the label, these guys are truly passionate about what they do!

Ok I need to get back to work in the studio. Currently just finished sound on an new installation which will get its showcase next week. Also working with the lovely Hipnotica (Portugal) singing on a couple of tracks on their new album.

Just finished up a new EP with George Demure and the Great Guns guys, a great new project, lots of fun and a total departure from what you would normally expect from Miss dark corner……I feel this is definitely one to watch!

So lots of things bubbling and will keep you all posted on how things pan out in the coming months.

Farewell 2011!

To summarise 2011 has been a roller-coaster of a year both personally and the World over! Everything from illness to earthquakes and revolutions….I am ever hopeful 2012 will be a year of adventures for us all…..I am looking forward to starting the year with a clean bill of health, the past few months have been good for me and long it may continue. With the release of Equestrienne remixes and my ongoing installation work, my new collaborations long they may continue into the next year.

My trip to the Amazon at the end of 2012 is something I am so looking forward to and what an adventure that will be, a trip of a lifetime and will bring forth new works to be showcased in 2013.

I cannot thank you all enough for your support through the good and the not so good times. It was certainly heart warming.I raise my glass to the new year and wish you all a wonderful start to 2012!

A Winters Tale

As we head on through December, with Christmas just around the corner am preparing to wind down for a break. A well earned one at that! Its been an eventful few weeks. Last week saw the opening of The Secret Subterranean Show which was put together and curated by the amazing Anomalous Visuals. The preview evening was sublime and one that I was not really prepared for, in a good way. I had popped down the previous day to test the sound for one of the installations, which sounded pretty special in the space. The guys worked so hard to pull it all together and not without drama, the feedback I have had, had been fantastic and I feel very blessed to be collaborating with such a great bunch of talented folk! Here’s to more collaborations in the future….

On another note there is a rather nice remix out that I did for Theodor Bastard from Russia, which is out this week, with a whole heap of great remixes. I want to thanks everyone for all their support over this year,….it has been an amazing journey after such a terrible start to 2011. I am looking forward to beginning 2012 feeling much healthier and with renewed vigour!

I have a few new things in the pipeline, a new compilation album coming very shortly with a number of very talented female sound artists which should get its release early next year.

I will be showcasing a new work along with the CODA installation, which was premiered recently as part of London Fashion Week.
